1. George W. McNutt .

General Notes: According to Spence and Spence, George W. McNutt moved to Northeast Mississippi in 1837 with his wife Margaret and family.

The 1840 Census of Tishomingo Co., MS, on page 215 lists George H. McNutt as head of the household with three males aged 15-20, two aged 20-30, one aged 50-60, and one female aged 50-60, with three engaged in agriculture.

The Special Census of 1845, lists George W. McNutt as head of household with four males and one female.

"History of Tishomingo County, Mississippi" by Alexander Cochran stated on page 53, that McNutt was part of the new arrivals in county records of 1840.

Page 267 of the same book states, "James McNutt was arrested by taking part in a Ku Klux Klan attach on several Negroes working on the Mobile and Ohio Railroad between Corinth and Rienzi on 6 Apr. 1871. They were fined $1,000 each and sentenced to answer at the next term of the circuit court. The authorities are fully determined to suppress these outrages, and those inclined to indulge in them will probably learn there is a God in Israel before long." It is unknown as to which line James belonged to.

A deed to 160 acres of land in Tishomingo Co., was listed in deed book N, p. 109 to George H. and Samuel R. McNutt on 26 March, 1849. This purchase was from William Moore and Mary his wife, for three hundred dollars. This tract of land was situated in the north east quarter of section five, township four of range ten east.

The 1850 Census of Tishomingo Co., lists S. R. McNutt aged 26, born in TN, as head of household, George aged 24, born in TN, Joseph and William aged 22, born in TN, Margaret aged 50, born in VA, and Nancy Percy, aged 18, born in MS. The family claimed $1400 in real estate. Since George W. was not listed in this census, it is assumed he had either died or left the household for some other reason. No record could be found of his death.

George married Margeret Peery, daughter of James Peery and Unknown.

   2 M    i. S. R. McNutt was born about 1821 in Tennessee.

+ 3 M    ii. George Hanover McNutt was born in 1823 in Hickman Co., Tennessee, died on Nov 15, 1851 in Iuka, Tishomingo Co., Mississippi at age 28, and was buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Tishomingo Co., Mississippi.

   4 M    iii. Joseph McNutt was born about 1825 in Tennessee.

   5 M    iv. William McNutt was born about 1825 in Tennessee.
